There’s no denying that Pokemon has been a huge brand for quite some time. With 20 years of movies, games and cartoons, the Pokemon legacy is a massive one but Pokemon GO tries to take things even further in a very interesting manner. The idea with this game is simple, it features augmented reality that allows you to chase and find Pokemon in the real world.
It’s a very interesting and refined game experience that’s unlike everything you have ever seen in the Pokemon world. The ability to just wander around through the city looking at your screen is amazing and it does come with some benefits. You get to explore the town you live in or new towns for that matter and at the same time you get a great workout from it.
Previous Pokemon games were more focused on battle rather than catching pokemon. That was interesting as well, but most of these games lacked the portability that a mobile phone has. And while there are a few pokemon games on the phone, nothing does impact the gaming world as much as Pokemon GO.
The reason is simple, GO comes with innovation. It’s the first augmented reality game of this scale and adding in pokemon into the mix was a wise choice for the game developers, that’s for sure. You will also like the fact that the gameplay is very simple, even if you can level up, get new items and so on.
The popularity for this game is so huge that not only did the game top the charts for Google Play and Apple Store, it also has a user base that’s similar to the one of Twitter. Which is crazy, considering the fact that at the time of this writing Pokemon GO isn’t out in Europe and some parts of Asia.
One thing is certain, Pokemon GO is indeed becoming a huge hit for Nintendo and it does bring in front some of the best gaming moments of the decade. Having the ability to play an augmented reality game is extraordinary and lots of fun, and this can be a huge hit for Nintendo. As the game reaches new regions and it manages to expand with new features, it can indeed become the best and most successful game that Nintendo has ever released. One thing is certain, the game continues to grow and there’s no sign of stopping!
What does this mean for Nintendo? One thing is certain, Pokemon GO is a huge moneymaker and the monetization is very good here. They did place some ads inside the game and you can also use real money to get items like pokeballs and so on. Also, Pokemon GO has managed to up the Nintendo stock price with 36% for a few days after its launch, which managed to add more than $7 billion to the market capitalization. And that’s not even including the real money spent on in-app purchases and other similar stuff.
So what do you think? Is Pokémon go, going to save Nintendo or is it a sellout for hardcore gamers? Leave your comments below and lets have a discussion.
